Benefits of Adaptive Sports
Recent studies indicate that disabled veterans participating in adaptive sports showed signs of reduced stress levels, reduced dependency on pain and depression medication, fewer secondary medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension), higher achievement in education and employment as well as a greater independence. In an effort to promote good mental and physical health, Florida Gulf Coast PVA provides funding for a wide range of wheelchair sports - including bowling, basketball, tennis, skiing, quad rugby, track and field, trap shooting, scuba diving and sailing. Not only are wheelchair sports an excellent way to meet people with similar life stories, but they also act as a vehicle to promote wheelchair awareness while showcasing an individual's abilities.
